The Balboa Reservoir project received the first approval on Thursday needed to rezone 17 acres of public land into housing.

At its first-ever virtual public meeting Thursday, the San Francisco Planning Commission unanimously approved the initiation of a General Plan Amendment for the 1,100-unit Balboa Reservoir project in Ingleside.

The vote rezones a parking lot for a proposed large mixed-use development adjacent to City College of San Francisco that has been under discussion for decades, and sets the stage for a public hearing scheduled to take place on or after April 30.

It remains unclear, however, whether that meeting will be held in person.

“If not, we’ve really done a robust job of meeting and hearing concerns,” said Brad Wiblin, executive vice president of BRIDGE Housing, one of the project’s affordable housing developers. “The scale of the project warranted this kind of effort.” Continue reading “SF Examiner: Approval process for Balboa Reservoir project gets underway”

SF Dept of Public Health recommendation on Masks

San Francisco”s Department of Emergency Management issued a recommendation last week that all Bay Area residents cover their mouths with cloth when leaving home for essential trips such as grocery or medical needs. This guidance matches what State officials have also recommended.

face-coveringsFace coverings can be scarves, cloth masks, etc. Medical-grade masks are not recommended. Read official press release below. If you don’t have such an item already, you can search online to find instructions for sewn and no-sew cloth masks–there are many creative ideas out there, such as these made from a t-shirt.

Stressed? Anxious? Some guidance from CA Surgeon General

The California Surgeon General has put forward some guidance for helping people regulate their stress and anxiety in this time of Covid-19. Being stuck at home, isolated work, friends, and family, is stressful, and not knowing when it all will end, adds to the anxiety.

But there are simple things everyone can to do to regulate stress and care for ourselves. Maintaining social and family relationships; getting good nutrition, exercise, and sleep; having a regular mindfulness practice; and finding mental health care if needed, are all things that will help regulate stress and anxiety.

Newsletter from D7 Supervisor Norman Yee

Yee_newsletter_2020_04_04April 4, 2020

I hope that this message finds you and your loved ones well and safe. I’ve been reaching out each week to provide updates on COVID-19 response efforts, helpful resources, and information about how we can all help keep ourselves and each other safe. I want to make sure that everyone feels supported as we all navigate through this very challenging time, and I will continue to share these updates in the weeks ahead.

I have been with my staff at the Emergency Operations Center (EOC) downtown since the center opened on March 18th. Multiple city departments, including the Department of Public Health and the Department of Emergency Management, are co-located there in order to keep communications and our citywide COVID-19 response moving as efficiently as possible. We have been advocating for hotel rooms for first responders, especially our front line workers such as our doctors and nurses, childcare providers, grocery store workers, police officers who are providing essential and life-saving services, some at great risk to themselves and their families. We’ve also been pushing to put relief in place for small businesses and tenants as well as property owners and landlords. Testing every single staff person at Laguna Honda Hospital who might be at risk and also expanding testing to all patients that might warrant it, has also been a priority as testing capacity ramps up citywide. These are only some of the actions that we have been moving forward while at the EOC.

As always, please feel free to reach out to my office during this time – we are here to help.

Sincerely,

Norman
