The Community Advisory Committee, led by SNA ex-president Lisa Spinali, provides a voice for our neighborhood in the process. All community members are welcome at BRCAC meetings. More about the upcoming meeting at City College here.

The remarkable document that this committee helped create to guide development at the site, Proposed Development Principles & Parameters for the Balboa Reservoir, has just been released (PDF).

Dear community members,

I hope you’ve been enjoying your summers and Happy July Fourth weekend!

After months of budget request meetings and preparing the proposed budget for fiscal years 2016-2018, deliberations concluded last week and the proposed budget moves forward for the first vote at the Full Board on July 19 and second and final vote on July 26. You can read more about the City and District 7 budget priorities below.

As some of you may have personally experienced, one of the most common constituent complaints I receive is from property owners being required to care for street trees. While I believe most of us appreciate trees in our urban environment, homeowners often end up bearing heavy costs to maintain them, or worse, getting fined for inadvertantly trimming or removing a tree improperly. Caring for our street trees should be a basic City service and I introduced legislation last week for an interim solution to this issue.

Also in light of the pedestrian that was tragically killed by a paratransit van, my legislation requiring telematics installation in City vehicles will be a tool used to prevent future collisions and was passed at the Board last week.

Now that summer’s here, I hope you check out all the fun, free events for all ages around the city.

My staff and I look forward to continue hearing from many of you regarding your concerns, ideas and questions.

SF Planning: Transportation Sustainability Program June 2016 Updates

Transportation Sustainability Program June 2016 Updates

After our Transportation Demand Management (TDM) Open House event on May 18th, we invited all of our interested parties to take part in our Transportation Demand Management Neighborhood Survey. If you haven’t done so already, we want you to tell us which sustainable travel options would be effective in your neighborhood. The survey will close on June 30, 2016.

Background Info on Survey
Prior to submitting a development application, a developer may request assistance from Planning Department staff to identify the TDM measures that make sense for their specific project and neighborhood. Planning’s website will also include a document titled “TDM Program Standards” and an online tool to help add points for their selected measures.

Once they’ve selected their measures, the developer will submit their choices along with their TDM Plan Review application. Planning will then work with other City staff to ensure the selected measures appropriately meet their targets and are implemented correctly.

The overall goal of the survey is receive feedback from the public regarding specific measures in the menu of options. In particular, we are interested if any measures would be particularly effective in your neighborhood. We will summarize the information received by neighborhood and provide it in a staff report to the Planning Commission on July 14, 2016. That summary may be useful to individuals and neighborhood organizations when working with developers of projects in your neighborhood.

Planning Code Amendment Adoption for the TDM Ordinance

On April 28, 2016, Planning Department staff initiated a Planning Code Amendment for the TDM Ordinance. It is currently scheduled for adoption at the Planning Commission on July 14, 2016. You can find the Executive Summary here.
