Newsletter from D7 Supervisor Norman Yee

Yee_newsletter_2020_04_04April 4, 2020

I hope that this message finds you and your loved ones well and safe. I’ve been reaching out each week to provide updates on COVID-19 response efforts, helpful resources, and information about how we can all help keep ourselves and each other safe. I want to make sure that everyone feels supported as we all navigate through this very challenging time, and I will continue to share these updates in the weeks ahead.

I have been with my staff at the Emergency Operations Center (EOC) downtown since the center opened on March 18th. Multiple city departments, including the Department of Public Health and the Department of Emergency Management, are co-located there in order to keep communications and our citywide COVID-19 response moving as efficiently as possible. We have been advocating for hotel rooms for first responders, especially our front line workers such as our doctors and nurses, childcare providers, grocery store workers, police officers who are providing essential and life-saving services, some at great risk to themselves and their families. We’ve also been pushing to put relief in place for small businesses and tenants as well as property owners and landlords. Testing every single staff person at Laguna Honda Hospital who might be at risk and also expanding testing to all patients that might warrant it, has also been a priority as testing capacity ramps up citywide. These are only some of the actions that we have been moving forward while at the EOC.

As always, please feel free to reach out to my office during this time – we are here to help.

Sincerely,

Norman

Changes in Muni service to have big impact on Sunnyside

As of this week, all three Muni buses (36, 43, 23) serving the Sunnyside neighborhood will cease to run. The 8-Bayshore and the 49-Van Ness/Mission will still operate on Ocean Ave, leaving from City College Station. The 44-O’Shaughnessy will be reduced to the eastern portion of its route, terminating in Glen Park. (BART continues to run Monday-Friday from 5am-9pm Saturday and Sunday from 8am-9pm.)

Full details on changes going into effect over the next three days, from SFMTA (see below line).

Some news reports:

SFMTA Prepares to Deliver Essential Trips Muni Service Only

Sunday, April 5, 2020

In the rapidly changing environment caused by COVID-19, the SFMTA is making additional updates to Muni service. While ridership has fallen significantly, our bus operators still serve approximately 100,000 passengers a day – getting nurses, cooks, custodians, and other essential workers to their jobs. The SFMTA has instituted some of the strongest health protections for our operators, mechanics, car cleaners and customers to minimize risk of transmission on our buses. These efforts have been paired with our continued effort to maintain regular service, so remaining essential workers have the space to maintain recommended distances on Muni. District 7 Call for Volunteers

From the office of District 7 Supervisor Norman Yee:

District 7 Call for Volunteers: Senior Outreach Society (SOS)

Interested in lending a hand, and joining an easy and safe effort to respond to the COVID-19 epidemic?

Join the District 7 Senior Outreach Society (“SOS”) Team!

As a Senior Outreach Society or SOS team member, you will call seniors in our district and see if they are safe and doing well sheltering at home.

Some folks might have a need for help and you’ll be able to connect them with the aid that they need, such as medication deliveries. Other folks who have been sheltering in place just need to hear and speak to a friendly neighbor.

It’s easy to volunteer and we are holding free trainings and on-going support! We will get through this together and you can make this time easier for a lot of folks by volunteering your time and friendly voice.
