After two weekends of work by dozens of volunteers, the prep and priming of the risers of the upper portion of the Detroit Step is done. Volunteers aged 14 + with artistic skills are needed over the next 6to 8 weekends to paint the rocks, flowers, and other elements to complete the design phase. After the project’s final phase will be to varnish the completed mural to extend the life of the mural.
The Detroit Steps Project (DSP) is seeking artistically inclined volunteers to sign up for two-hour shifts over the next few weekends. They will paint the flowers, rocks, and other elements of the design that were approved by the city’s Art Commission.
This multi-phase, community-led painting project is sponsored by the Sunnyside Neighborhood Association. DSP was launched in 2018 and has received two District 7 Participatory Budgeting funding grants and a Community Challenge Grant from the City.
Interested volunteers may sign up here.
For our quarterly Sunnyside Cleanup in August, we will resume meeting at 118 Circular Ave. Besides the regular pickers, we will also have some yard bags so we can do some weeding. So come with your garden gloves if you’ve got some! Please RSVP if you plan to join us.

SNA is excited to bring the neighborhood garage sale back on September 27th 10am to 2pm! We will be creating a map of participating garages and sharing it with SNA neighbors and beyond. It’s free for SNA members to be listed on the map. For non-SNA members, there is a fee of $10/household. If you would like to be listed as a participating seller, please register here!
