Detroit Steps Project partners with SF Parks Alliance

Sunnyside’s local Detroit Steps Project is well on its way to success. the most recent good news is that San Francisco Parks Alliance (SFPA) has just approved the Project’s application to become one of the organization’s fiscally sponsored community groups.

This new community connection means that the Detroit Steps Project (DSP) will have additional resources to put toward its efforts to secure a Community Challenge Grant (CCG), the City-sponsored funding that has made possible many similar projects in neighborhoods over the years.

SFPA provides the community group with guidance in CCG application, access to City-approved vendors, and 25 years of experience in supporting community groups. By partnering with SFPA, the Detroit Step Project, as a new community group, increases its chances of getting funded.

D7 Covid Update from Supervisor Yee – Oct 2020

October 15, 2020
Dear Friends and Neighbors,

By now, you should have received your ballot for the November 2020 Election in the mail. It’s crucial we all vote not only at the national level for President and Vice President, but at the local level in our own districts. We need more equitable representation across the board at every level. Educate yourself about candidates and ballot measures to choose what is best for you and your family.I’ve heard from many of you about the Twin Peaks Auto Care lease extension and the St. Ignatius lights. Thank you to all who have shared their thoughts on these issues. I’ve heard you and will keep your comments in mind as these issues again come before the Board.

Today is the LAST DAY to fill out your 2020 Census. If you haven’t yet, please go to  my2020census.gov today to make sure SF gets the resources we need. The deadline is 11:59pm tonight.

And, don’t get complacent about COVID-19, please keep wearing your masks, washing your hands and watching your distance around others.

Sincerely,
Norman

Local Greening Hero Ming Louie Passes Away

Longtime Sunnysider and dedicated local volunteer Ming Louie passed away yesterday evening. He will be missed by by all who knew him, but the work he did on behalf of our local green spaces in Sunnyside will live on.

Ming Louie ( center) with Pat Moore, SNA Greening Committee Chair, and Ed Lee, San Francisco Mayor, in Sept 2011, at the dedication ceremony for the Circular Ribbon Garden.

Ming had the terrible misfortune to be hit by a car on Monterey Boulevard in 2016, the first of a series of pedestrian/cyclist injuries and deaths that led to the street being designated a High Injury Corridor by the City. Read more about that here and here.

A remembrance of Ming by his friend Pat Moore:
