Friends of the Urban Forest Street Tree Planting Informational Virtual Meeting

Friends of the Urban Forest (FUF) is coming to Sunnyside to plant trees at no charge. Here’s an opportunity for homeowners interested in having a new street tree to get one at no charge and select the species as well. Moreover, FUF and the city are committed to watering and tree care for the first three years after planting

Interested homeowners must contact FUF within the next few days to be included in this opportunity! FUF can remove concrete and tree stumps if needed—all at no charge! Trees will be planted by volunteers at an event on May 31st. Volunteers are needed for this event as well. More information to follow.

Participatory Budgeting Virtual Follow-up Meeting- Monday 6:30 pm

The Sunny Side Neighborhood Association held its first virtual participatory budget meeting this week, focusing on community-driven improvements. Key proposals included:

Monterey Boulevard Traffic: Residents who want to improve safety propose a quick-build that will slow traffic and install a pedestrian beacon at the Acadia crosswalk.

Detroit/Monterey Crosswalk: A proposal for a decorative crosswalk to enhance safety and aesthetics. The association will explore design and feasibility.

Safeway Mural: A plan to create a community mural on the Safeway wall. The association will contact artists and explore funding.

There will be a virtual follow-up meeting on Monday at 6:30.
