Participatory Budgeting Voting opens this Friday – a chance to have your say

On Friday March 17, 2017, the voting opens for this year’s slate of Participatory Budgeting options. There will be many projects on the slate for District 7.

Sunnyside Neighborhood Association has been working behind the scenes to make sure that there is one budget item that would implement several pedestrian-safety improvements in our neighborhood:

Pedestrian Safety Improvements for Sunnyside Streets – Cost: $120,000
These proposed pedestrian safety improvements, including strategic stop signs, marked crosswalks, and other measures to promote visibility, directly address specific danger spots in Sunnyside and will substantially increase the pedestrian safety. These improvements were assembled with the input of local residents and the Sunnyside Neighborhood Association.

Also on the ballot are local projects that can improve our quality of life. We need your votes to ensure Sunnyside receives funding for those improvements and projects.

Voting is open until March 31, 2017.

Friends of the Urban Forest (FUF) are taking applications for the next tree-planting day in Sunnyside, which is scheduled for Sat May 13, 2017. Get a new tree in your yard or at the curb. Applications are due by Wed March 29, 2017.

CAC MEETING: NEXT MONDAY, MARCH 13, 2017

The next Community Advisory Committee (CAC) meeting date has been advanced to Monday, March 13, 2017 at the normal time and location: 6:15pm at City College MUB Room 140. We will focus on expanding community outreach to ensure broad and inclusive attendance at a future meeting for prospective developers (see above) to present their visions for the Balboa Reservoir. The meeting’s agenda is posted online at hhttp://sf-planning.org/brcac. We encourage your input on the question of broad, inclusive community engagement. In preparation for Monday, please consider the following questions:

  • Which groups or communities should we make sure to engage?
  • How can we ensure that they are informed and able to participate?

ANNOUNCING THE BALBOA RESERVOIR RFQ RESULTS

An evaluation panel made up of City staff from SFPUC, OEWD, the Planning Department, SFMTA, and MOHCD, as well as representatives of the Balboa Reservoir Community Advisory Committee and City College of San Francisco, have concluded the Balboa Reservoir RFQ process. We were delighted to receive nine responses from a diverse and thoughtful group of potential partners. CCSF trustees revive plans to build theater at Balboa Reservoir

Plans to build a performing arts center at Balboa Reservoir may soon be resurrected now that City College of San Francisco is no longer suffering from an accreditation crisis.

The latest plans call for the construction of a large performance hall next to the new Multi-Use Building and the relocation of a historic Diego Rivera mural on campus into the new theater, according to a proposal set to appear before the Board of Trustees Thursday from Vice President Brigitte Davila and Trustee John Rizzo.

The news comes within months of two victories for City College. In January, the college’s accreditor reaffirmed its accreditation for another seven years. The following month, city officials reached a deal to make tuition free for most San Francisco residents at City College next school year.
