The next meeting of the Balboa Reservoir Community Advisory Committee is Monday Apr 9, 6pm, at the CCSF Multi-Use Building. The developer team AvalonBay/BRIDGE will show their plan for the 17-acre site, along with several options for various aspects. Now that the City has approved the Fiscal Feasibility Report, this site plan, if accepted, will begin the environmental review process.

The project site is located west of Phelan Ave and north of Ocean Ave. All residents are welcome at the BRCAC meetings. There is an open public comment period.

Tree down on Monterey Blvd

Strong winds today took down a large tree on Monterey Blvd just east of Congo Street. Fortunately no cars or drivers were injured when it fell shortly after 1pm, Wed Mar 22. An ad hoc group of young men assembled–neighbors and passers-by–to move the trunk so that cars could pass. Another neighbor called 311. Like many of the trees on Monterey planted in the 1970s, it was not in good health.

On Monday, Save CCSF, a coalition of City College professors, community members and public education advocates, filed initial paperwork for a ballot measure that would prohibit new development on the Balboa Reservoir site until a planned Performing Arts Education Center on an adjacent site is “built, completed and opened to the public.”

Advocates for the Save CCSF coalition have spoken out against the “privatization of public land” and called for the Public Utilities Commission, which owns the reservoir, to transfer the land to City College.

“I don’t think there should be housing built right now, it should be a campus,” said Tomasita Medal, of Save CCSF.  Continue reading “SF Examiner: ‘Balboa Reservoir housing project opponents launch ballot measure’”
