Second Round Proposed Amendments to Bylaws Posted for Review by SNA Members

Amendments proposed to the bylaws of the Sunnyside Neighborhood Association (SNA) have been posted to SNA’s website for review by its members. Bylaws are the rules that govern the operations of SNA, and the proposed amendments will be reviewed and voted on during SNA’s next quarterly meeting in August.

As stated in the bylaws, members must be given at least 30 days to submit proposed amendments in writing prior to the next membership meeting. At least 75% of active members in attendance must approve the proposed changes for them to be adopted. The next meeting is scheduled for Monday, August 11, at 6:30 PM.

The original bylaws were adopted on September 24, 1974, when SNA was established. They were amended once in May 2016. The first proposed amended bylaws were posted on June 27, 2025. Since then, the board has received additional proposals for amendments, which have been incorporated.

Seeking Volunteers to Paint Upper Detroit Steps

The Upper Detroit Steps Mural Project is 60% complete, reports Tad Sky, artist-in-residence. Thanks to Tad and dozens of volunteers, our gray steps are transforming into an iconic piece of community art unlike any other in San Francisco. Volunteers who complete two or more shifts can get a Detroit Steps cap and T-Shirt.

This Labor Day Weekend (Saturday & Sunday, 10am–4pm), volunteers will be back on the steps, and we are seeking creative volunteers to join us for a two-hour shift to paint at 10am, noon, and/or 2pm.

“We are incredibly grateful for the talents volunteers shared so far, and we warmly invite Sunnysiders and others to laugh, paint, and feel the inspiration,” Tad said. These colorful steps—115 in all—will brighten Sunnyside for years to come.”

Where: Upper Detroit Steps, Sunnyside (between Hearst & Detroit)

When: Labor Day Weekend (Sat & Sun, 10am–4pm) + every weekend in September until completion

Have a say in who leads our police force

Your voice is needed in the search for San Francisco’s next Chief of Police! The Police Commission is actively seeking community input to help shape the qualifications and priorities for this critical leadership role. Your participation is essential to ensure the new chief reflects the values and needs of our city.

Upcoming Community Meetings

This week, there are two opportunities to make your voice heard in person. These meetings, facilitated by Chief Daniel Hahn (retired), are a chance to share what you believe are the most important attributes for the next police chief. Whether it’s a commitment to community policing, transparency, or a specific set of skills, this is your chance to influence the decision.

  • Richmond Library: Tuesday, August 26, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at 351 9th Ave.
  • North Beach Library: Wednesday, August 27, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at 850 Columbus Ave.

For those who can’t make it this week, don’t worry—four more meetings are scheduled for mid-September. Keep an eye out for details on those dates.

Can’t attend? You can still provide input!

If you’re unable to attend a meeting, you can still submit your thoughts. The Police Commission and the Mayor’s Office are also reviewing written comments and formal letters. You can send your input to Input-SFPC@ralphandersen.com. Your feedback, along with survey responses, will be considered as part of the selection process.
