In celebration of BART’s upcoming 50th anniversary on September 11, BART is offering a 50% discount for the entire month of September 2022.
The reduced fare will be automatically deducted when using Clipper at the fare gates. Our online Trip Planner and Fare Calculator have been updated to show discounted fares during the month of September. While BART will share discounted fares with other apps and websites, we can’t guarantee that non-BART sources will display them.
Printed fare charts at vending machines in each station will not be changed for the month of September but a large decal will be posted noting there is 50% off the published fares.
The discount is only available when using Clipper. Clipper is currently offering free Clipper cards when you add a new card in Apple Wallet or Google Pay. The card is also free if you order it online and set up automatic reloading. There is a one-time $3 fee to purchase a new Clipper card from a BART station vending machine.
BART’s 50% off in September promotion is stackable with other Clipper discounts available for youth, seniors, riders with disabilities, and low-income adult riders, including Regional Transportation Connection, Clipper Start, and Gator Pass riders. Proof of eligibility is required for discount Clipper cards; therefore, they are not available at station vending machines.
Youth, senior, and START cards are all free and BART does not charge for RTC cards when obtained at our customer services window at Lake Merritt Station.
BART’s Trip Planner and Fare Calculator will include the special promotional price of these discounted cards for trips in September.
Starting in September, BART is hosting a series of free, family-friendly events to celebrate our golden anniversary and thank patrons for riding with us.
From September 3 through 9 at Powell St. Station, riders can play a series of free vintage arcade games set up on the concourse level. The games include Pac-Man, Galaga, Asteroids, and Space Invaders. They are available for play between 9 am and 5 pm.
On September 10, from 11 am to 4 pm, BART will host a 50th Birthday Party and Family Fun Festival at Lake Merritt Station Plaza. The festival will feature food trucks, live music, games, photo booths, and more. Special guests will join BART to deliver remarks and open a time capsule buried in 1992. If you have suggestions for objects to place in the new time capsule submit them on Twitter here.
Also through September, and into October, BART will host three Sound Tracks events – free live concerts at our stations. The first concert will be held at Downtown Berkeley Station from 5 pm to 630 pm on September 21. On September 28, the music travels to El Cerrito del Norte Station from 5 pm to 6:30 pm. And on October 7, Sound Tracks will be held at Glen Park Station in partnership with Litquake, which will host a reading featuring some of the finalists of BART Lines, BART’s first short story contest.
