Don’t forget – Final Monterey Blvd. planting tomorrow, Saturday August 18th

A big green thumbs up to the Sunnyside Greening Committee for all their hard work to help Sunnyside look amazing.

Tomorrow we are meeting at Acadia St. and Circular Ave. at 8:00 a.m.  We will be leap frogging towards Ridgewood Ave.  DPW will be there to assist with lane closures.  All safety and gardenting equipment is provided, you just show up.  We will finish up with a great lunch to celebrate our hard work, around 12:30 – 1:00 p.m.

We need all hands on deck, or on dirt!  Remember that many hands make light work! Your rewards are good company, a beautiful boulevard, fun and food.  Are you in?  Yes!  For more information, contact the Sunnyside Greening Committee at greensunnyside@gmail.com.

Rebuilding Together – Offering free assistance to seniors and the disabled

Perhaps you know of a senior and disabled member of our community who could use some assistance?  Rebuilding Together offers FREE support to ensure seniors can live safely in their homes.  As we get older, it can become more difficult to care for our homes and ensure our safety.  If you are interested or have a neighbor who might make for a great candidate for their services, please use the attached application.

Rebuilding Together San Francisco provides free repair and renovation programs for low-income, elderly and disabled San Franciscans and for nonprofit and community facilities. The programs address basic living, life event and quality of life needs of homeowners and the people served by the facilities with which they work. The work they do creates safer environments and makes it possible for people to live independently for a longer time in their own homes.

The organization was founded in 1989, just prior  to the Loma Prieta earthquake. Known then as Christmas in April, the organization was created through the grassroots collaboration of several business, labor and community organizations in San Francisco.

With the support and involvement of businesses and individuals, Rebuilding Together sets in motion a cycle of renewal, community-building and civic engagement. Since 1989, they have rehabilitated more than 2,000 homes and 290 facilities serving tens of thousands of people. Hundreds of civic-minded companies, religious and community groups support the work they do with financial and in-kind resources.

RTSF is a local affiliate of Rebuilding Together, a national organization that includes 195 affiliates serving 500 communities nationwide, and mobilizing thousands of volunteers each year.

PLEASE VOTE FOR THIS SUNNYSIDE GRANT SUBMISSION

A message from Lisa Spinali, SNA President:

As the newly elected president of the Sunnyside Neighborhood Association and frequent user of nextDoor.com, I have discovered this great communication gap in our community between those of us who are on line and our neighbors (mostly seniors) who are not. I would like to crack this nut to figure out great and faster (beyond snail mail) ways to connect with our entire community. Would you please vote for our grant to figure this out? Thank you so much!

To vote, just CLICK HERE or on the url below. Thank you very much. If we get the most votes, we will have $1000 to help us build our communication system for everyone.
