The San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency (SFMTA). I wanted to get in touch today to let you know about some exciting Muni service improvements coming your way this April as part of Muni Forward.

In case you haven’t heard about Muni Forward, it’s an initiative to make getting around San Francisco easier, safer, and more reliable. If you are interested in receiving updates about this project, please follow this link. Combined, the service changes being implemented citywide represent a 12 percent increase in Muni service.

Come April 25, in your neighborhood, the following bus names and numbers will change:
•                    6 Parnassus is now the 6 Haight-Parnassus
•                    17 Parkmerced is now the 57 Parkmerced

The SSIP is a comprehensive fix & upgrade to the City’s aging sewer system.  Most people are unaware that the largest treatment plant in San Francisco, the Southeast Treatment Plant (SEP), is located in Bayview Hunters Point and processes 80% of the City’s wastewater.  Invariably, when most people flush, the “proceeds” flow to Bayview, a plant built in 1952, that is well beyond it’s useful life.  The SSIP is the first phase ($2.7 billion), and has been approved by the Board of Supervisors and the Mayor.  Because of the plant’s location (and Bayview’s history), there is an environmental justice element.

Since most people are completely unaware of sewers, we have started a public awareness campaign that has caught national attention (Inc).  We are following that up with a rap video that is entirely written and performed by kids from Bayview and SFPUC personnel.  Our goal is to get more people to care about, and actually be stewards of our sewer system.  As example the SFPUC could save nearly a million dollars a year if people stopped flushing condoms, sanitary wipes and other materials down their toilets. Join us at our Glen Park Village Farmers’ Market opening on Sunday, March 29th! There will be a ribbon cutting at 11 a.m.

The market, located at the Glen Park BART Station parking lot at Bosworth and Arlington, is open every Sunday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., and runs through November 22. Along with Northern California’s freshest fruits and vegetables, there will be live music and fun activities for all ages. We will also be providing a stroller parking area, as well as a dog “barking” (parking) station.

This year, the market will welcome several new producers, as well as favorite producers from past seasons. These local farms will offer a constantly changing variety of seasonal California produce, including earthy asparagus, flavorful mushrooms, juicy strawberries, and Asian greens. In addition, the market will feature locally-grown dahlias, locally-caught fresh seafood, and locally-made sauces, tamales, and empanadas.

All PCFMA farmers’ markets accept WIC-FMNP (Woman, Infants, and Children Farmers’ Market Nutrition Program) coupons and CalFresh EBT.
