Essential Trip Card: Helping Older Adults and People with Disabilities Navigate Reduced Muni Service

Muni is making necessary service reductions during the order to shelter-in-place. We know that for many people with disabilities and seniors, walking farther to an alternate bus — or paying for other transportation — isn’t possible. To serve this need, the SFMTA is announcing the Essential Trip Card (ETC) – a discount program to help seniors and people with disabilities make essential trips in taxis during this crisis.

The ETC will subsidize about two to three round trips by taxi per month for older adults (persons 65 and older) and people with disabilities. Eligible participants will pay 20% of the cost of a regular cab ride fare for essential trips. The program uses taxis to take people on essential trips like going to the grocery store, pharmacy or another necessary medical trip during the shelter-in-place period. Customers who pay $12 will receive $60 value for taxi trips on a debit card. Continue reading “New senior resource from SFMTA: Essential Trip Card for reduced fare taxis”

Changes in Muni service to have big impact on Sunnyside

As of this week, all three Muni buses (36, 43, 23) serving the Sunnyside neighborhood will cease to run. The 8-Bayshore and the 49-Van Ness/Mission will still operate on Ocean Ave, leaving from City College Station. The 44-O’Shaughnessy will be reduced to the eastern portion of its route, terminating in Glen Park. (BART continues to run Monday-Friday from 5am-9pm Saturday and Sunday from 8am-9pm.)

Full details on changes going into effect over the next three days, from SFMTA (see below line).

SFMTA Prepares to Deliver Essential Trips Muni Service Only

Sunday, April 5, 2020

In the rapidly changing environment caused by COVID-19, the SFMTA is making additional updates to Muni service. While ridership has fallen significantly, our bus operators still serve approximately 100,000 passengers a day – getting nurses, cooks, custodians, and other essential workers to their jobs. The SFMTA has instituted some of the strongest health protections for our operators, mechanics, car cleaners and customers to minimize risk of transmission on our buses. These efforts have been paired with our continued effort to maintain regular service, so remaining essential workers have the space to maintain recommended distances on Muni.
