Participatory Budgeting voting season is here: From April 1 to April 14, all District 7 residents can vote on which community-initiated projects to fund. (D7 Map.) Your vote is the critical for bringing money to our neighborhood for projects designed by your neighbors! Please take a moment and vote here: http://sfpbd.sfgov.org/district/7/vote

Four projects were developed by Sunnyside residents, and will have a direct impact on our neighborhood–but only if they get enough votes. Vote for Sunnyside!

SF Examiner: Phelan Avenue to be renamed Frida Kahlo Way after public vote

After a public vote that included City College of San Francisco and the surrounding neighborhood, Phelan Avenue’s contentious name will be replaced with that of Mexican artist Frida Kahlo.

The name change is an effort to strip away the legacy of former San Francisco Mayor James Duval Phelan from street signs in the area. Apart from his generous contribution to the arts, Phelan is remembered for anti-immigrant policies and racist election slogans in the early 1900s. From SF Planning, regarding upcoming Balboa Reservoir Project events.

We would like to remind you that the next Balboa Reservoir CAC Meeting will be held on Monday, April 9th, 6pm at the City College Multi-Use Building, room 140. The development team will be providing updates based on feedback heard to date. The agenda (PDF).

We would also like to announce that on April 20 and 21, the development team will be hosting open house events in the neighborhood. Community members will have the opportunity to learn more about and offer feedback on the housing, open space, and public amenities in the development team’s refined base case plan. The open houses will take place Friday, April 20 from 2-6pm and Saturday April 21 from 10am-2pm, at the 1100 Ocean Ave Community Room (in front of Unity Plaza right next to Philz Coffee). New traffic cameras at Monterey & Circular

Two new cameras were being installed today on streetlight posts at the Monterey/Circular/I-280 intersection—not for speed enforcement, but to improve the sensing system that determines traffic-light timing.
