The Balboa Reservoir Community Advisory Committee meets Monday, May 10, 2021, at 6 PM on Zoom. Public comment always welcome.
The two main agenda items are a presentation from SFMTA about the plans to improve the Frida Kahlo-Ocean-Geneva intersection; and a discussion about the future of the community process for the BR Project.
In response to a request from the residents on the 400 block of Flood Avenue (between Foerster and Gennessee) SFMTA will be installing two sets of speed humps, approved a week ago at the SFMTA Engineering Hearing.
The current request period closes at the end of June, and due to Covid-19, all usual requirements for petitions/signatures have been waived. If you would like to see the traffic on your block slowed down, this is an excellent opportunity.
By arrangement with SFMTA and D7 Supervisor Myrna Melgar’s office, there will be a special community meeting to discuss the proposed inclusion of Hearst Avenue in the Slow Streets program. Whether you have concerns or are a supporter, please join Sunnyside residents and SNA on Thursday Feb 25 at 6-7 PM. Agenda below. Slides of the SFMTA presentation (PDF) can be downloaded here.
This week the San Francisco Board of Supervisors gave the final approval for the Balboa Reservoir Project, the housing development planned for the Upper Balboa Reservoir located south of Sunnyside next to City College. The project will have 1100 units of housing, including 550 units of affordable housing, about 100 market-rate houses, 150 units for educators, a central two-acre park, childcare facilities, a community room for public use, and other features. View slides from the Design Standard and Guidelines (PDF) at the end of this post.

The approval marks the end of a five-year-long process that encompassed regular community engagement. SNA and Sunnyside residents regularly participated in meetings of the Balboa Reservoir Community Advisory Committee. The committee was initiated in 2015 by President Norman Yee, supervisor for District 7 where the site is located.
