SNA is holding a special online meeting focused on current transportation options for seniors and people with disabilities.

  • Tuesday June 9th, 5-6 PM, via Zoom. Meeting link BELOW.

The meeting includes a short presentation by Cathy DeLuca of Community Living Campaign (CLC) followed by a question-and-answer time. Cathy has been working for safe streets in the city for many years, and is now bringing her knowledge and passion to CLC in service of seniors. Hosted by SNA President Kenneth Hollenbeck. Online activities and resources for seniors with Community Connectors

Sunnyside Community Connectors is part of a larger community network for seniors. There is an ongoing schedule of virtual events for seniors during the Stay at Home order. Here is the latest news:

– Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19):  You can get updates and resource info. by calling 311 or at  SF311.org Seniors and people with disabilities can also call Disability and Aging Services at (415) 355-6700 for referrals to services, including take-out meals, home-delivered meals and groceries, and more.

– New Restaurant Food Program:  Just announced by Gov. Newsom on 4/24 this program will deliver three nutritious meals a day from local restaurants to seniors 65 and over who meet other eligibility requirements.  It is still in the planning stages in San Francisco and should know more by next week.  Call 211 for information.  Will provide the latest on this program in the next Friday Flyer announcements or sooner via e-mail.

New senior resource from SFMTA: Essential Trip Card for reduced fare taxis

Essential Trip Card: Helping Older Adults and People with Disabilities Navigate Reduced Muni Service

Muni is making necessary service reductions during the order to shelter-in-place. We know that for many people with disabilities and seniors, walking farther to an alternate bus — or paying for other transportation — isn’t possible. To serve this need, the SFMTA is announcing the Essential Trip Card (ETC) – a discount program to help seniors and people with disabilities make essential trips in taxis during this crisis.

The ETC will subsidize about two to three round trips by taxi per month for older adults (persons 65 and older) and people with disabilities. Eligible participants will pay 20% of the cost of a regular cab ride fare for essential trips. The program uses taxis to take people on essential trips like going to the grocery store, pharmacy or another necessary medical trip during the shelter-in-place period. District 7 Call for Volunteers: Senior Outreach Society (SOS)

Interested in lending a hand, and joining an easy and safe effort to respond to the COVID-19 epidemic?

Join the District 7 Senior Outreach Society (“SOS”) Team!

As a Senior Outreach Society or SOS team member, you will call seniors in our district and see if they are safe and doing well sheltering at home.

Some folks might have a need for help and you’ll be able to connect them with the aid that they need, such as medication deliveries. Other folks who have been sheltering in place just need to hear and speak to a friendly neighbor.

It’s easy to volunteer and we are holding free trainings and on-going support! We will get through this together and you can make this time easier for a lot of folks by volunteering your time and friendly voice.
