Sunnyside certainly has its share of sidewalk parking.

We have all heard it before — a few gallons of water, a radio, cans of food, and the rest — the things we are supposed to store in event of that earthquake (or other disaster) everyone knows is due in the Bay Area. But there is more to real neighborhood preparedness.
San Francisco’s NERT (Neighborhood Emergency Response Team) program is a great program which teaches neighbors like you to help yourself and others in the event of a major earthquake or catastrophe. You will learn light search and rescue, how to shut off utilities, do triage, and very basic first aid. It’s a fun class, and a great way to meet your neighbors and help your fellow San Franciscans in a disaster.
Sunnyside Neighborhood Association’s president, Stephen Martinpinto is a NERT instructor. He is currently inviting Sunnysiders to let him know if they are interested in becoming part of a future training. Write Steve at sunnyside.president@gmail.com or text him at (760) 271-1877.

Tonight Sunnyside Neighborhood Association holds its quarterly general meeting. All Sunnyside residents are welcome. 7-8:30 pm in the St Finn Barr Auditorium (415 Edna Street).
We will be discussing the recent injury collisions on Monterey Blvd (more here and here), and how we can make positive changes for increased safety on our main street. More on this issue from Friends of Monterey Blvd.
The agenda also includes a representative from SFPUC about the sewer modernization program, a representative from the ballot initiative ‘Housing Not Tents,’ and a representative from SF Housing Action Coalition speaking about the Affordable Housing Bonus Program. Some of these are contentious issues, and we hope you will bring your questions.

We will be hearing updates from the Balboa Reservoir Project Community Advisory Committee and our new liaison to City College as it finalizes the Facilities Master Plan.
We will also hold a raffle — prizes courtesy local merchants and more… Light refreshments served.
Many new members have joined SNA over the previous months — but we have also had many new followers of this blog — people who are interested but who aren’t yet members. We invite you to come to the meeting and join SNA — and be a part of community-building in our neighborhood. (You can also join online here.)
