We are looking for candidates to apply for the San Francisco County Transportation Authority’s Citizens Advisory Committee (CAC). Interested in the Caltrain Downtown Extension? Bus rapid transit? Safer streets and sidewalks? Bike lanes? Over the past decade, the CAC has helped the Transportation Authority Board guide the investment of over $1 billion in local transportation sales tax funds – matched with federal, state and other local funds – into projects that improve transportation in every neighborhood and citywide. Detroit Street crosswalk beacon installed today

The long-awaited pedestrian-activated beacon was finally installed today on Monterey Boulevard at the Detroit Street crosswalk by city contractor BayAreaLightworks.

Unfortunately the position of the previously-placed pedestrian alert sign blocks the view of the new beacon for some west-bound automobiles. Hopefully SFMTA’s signage workers will correct this problem soon.

Vision Zero enforcement on Monterey Blvd this month

At the last SNA meeting, Captain Joseph McFadden of the Ingleside Police Station told attendees that his officers would be out during August on Monterey Blvd (as they often are) enforcing moving violations of the type identified by the City’s Vision Zero program–those that endanger vulnerable road users like pedestrians and cyclists. Last year we had collisions resulting in severe injuries and one death on Monterey, triggering the new designation as a “high-injury corridor.” Yesterday a resident saw several citations taking place on Monterey.

You are invited: Come to the quarterly meeting of the Sunnyside Neighborhood Association on Monday August 7th. Find out what is happening in Sunnyside — hear from city officials and ask your questions — meet your neighbors in person — become a member of your neighborhood association.

Time and place: Monday August 7th, 2017, 7-8:30 pm, at St Finn Barr Auditorium (415 Edna Street at Hearst Ave).

Vision Zero: Monterey Blvd identified as high-injury corridor

A new Vision Zero map was recently released, showing Monterey Boulevard as a high-injury corridor. For Sunnysiders familiar with the three major injury crashes involving pedestrians and a cyclist last year, this will come as no surprise.
