On Wednesday, San Francisco opened its first “vehicle triage center,” a long-term parking lot geared for people living out of cars and recreational vehicles, which City Hall hopes will offer solutions for homeless residents who rely on vehicles as shelter but have trouble securing legal parking. The Balboa Reservoir Community Advisory Committee meets this evening, Monday Dec 9th, at 6-7:30 PM, Room 140, Multi-Use Building, City College of San Francisco, 55 Frida Kahlo Way. All residents are welcome, and there is time for public comment.

Host Homes: New program from SF LGBT Center aimed at ending youth housing crisis

Do you have a spare room in your home? This new program means you could be part of ending the youth housing crisis.

Our friends at the SF LGBT Center are starting their first-ever housing program and it’s called Host Homes. Host Homes is a community-driven solution to ending youth housing crisis that facilitates mutually beneficial pairing between San Francisco based hosts and young adult guests who need a safe place to stay while finding stable housing. 

HOW IT WORKS: The SF LGBT Center is looking to recruit fantastic hosts who have a spare bedroom or private space that can be turned into a bedroom in their homes. Both host and guest will be carefully screened and a mutual pairing will be made that honors the lifestyles, values, and interests of the two in order to have a successful matching experience. The guest will stay in the host’s home for 3-12 months and will receive in-depth case management around searching for housing, education, and job opportunities while in the program that can lead to stable housing.

The Balboa reservoir Community Advisory Committee meets on Monday Sept 30th, 6-8 PM, at City College Multi-Use Building, Room 140, 50 Frida Kahlo Way, San Francisco. Public comment is welcome at these meetings.

Home Match San Francisco helps homeowners with extra rooms connect with home seekers who need an affordable place to live, creating a win-win situation.

Homeowners benefits from extra income or help with chores such as grocery shopping, pet care, or transportation. Home seekers who live, work, or study in San Francisco benefit from affordable rent and an established community. Both benefit from companionship.

Home Match is based on a national model and connects people based on lifestyle, personal preferences, and interests to insure compatibility. Our staff screen applicants through interviews, background checks, and home visits, and help potential matches design a comprehensive Living Together Agreement. And we continue to work with you, even after the match is made, offering on-going support.
