We are looking for candidates to apply for the San Francisco County Transportation Authority’s Citizens Advisory Committee (CAC). Interested in the Caltrain Downtown Extension? Bus rapid transit? Safer streets and sidewalks? Bike lanes? Over the past decade, the CAC has helped the Transportation Authority Board guide the investment of over $1 billion in local transportation sales tax funds – matched with federal, state and other local funds – into projects that improve transportation in every neighborhood and citywide. Participatory Budgeting: another season of Your Ideas, Your Vote, Your Decision

During the last round, Participatory Budgeting put $120,000 into the pipeline for improved pedestrian safety for Sunnyside.

Now it’s time to begin another round of crafting projects and proposals for the next season of District 7 Participatory Budgeting–the fifth year in Supervisor Norman Yee’s program. This process is open to all D7 residents. The Kick-Off meeting is Wed Nov 1, at Midtown Terrace Clubhouse, 280 Olympia, San Francisco.

You are invited: Come to the quarterly meeting of the Sunnyside Neighborhood Association on Monday August 7th. Find out what is happening in Sunnyside — hear from city officials and ask your questions — meet your neighbors in person — become a member of your neighborhood association.

Time and place: Monday August 7th, 2017, 7-8:30 pm, at St Finn Barr Auditorium (415 Edna Street at Hearst Ave).

  • James Shahamiri from SFMTA will speak about the implications of Monterey’s designation as a high injury corridor and answer your questions
  • Latest news about the Balboa Reservoir Project.
  • Captain McFadden from Ingleside Police Station on safety/crime and to answer your questions.
  • Erica Maybaum from Supervisor Norman Yee’s office with update on local issues and to answer your questions.
  • “Greenstorming” session with our members: how can we plan and work to improve Sunnyside’s outdoor spaces? Bring your ideas.

First step for pedestrian safety at Baden and Hearst

One of the intersections called out as dangerous to walkers and cyclists in SNA’s winning pedestrian safety proposal in the recent round of Participatory Budgeting was Baden Street and Hearst Avenue. This week a DPW contractor began work on the first step toward better safety for vulnerable road users here: installing ADA (yellow bumpy) ramps on each of the corners. Are painted crosswalks next?
