How to protect yourself in light of recent crimes

There are have a few incidences in Sunnyside that reminds us all that we need to be proactive in preventing and becoming a victim of crime.

Recently, there was a home burglary on Monterey Blvd. and an attempted robbery on Judson Ave. in front of a CCSF building.  While Sunnyside remains a very safe neighborhood, we need to make sure we continue to protect ourselves and lower our risk of being a crime victim.

CCSF and SFPD continue to keep us informed of safety and crime issues in our neighborhood.  A link to their websites can be found on the Links page of this website.

It is important to protect yourself.  Small things, such as staying alert of your surroundings, make a big impact.  Other suggestions include:

  • Make sure your cars and homes are locked and secure and avoid keeping valuables in sight
  • Having your keys out and ready to enter your car and/or home
  • Deter having your mobile devices out in public and on buses, avoid having conversations on them – this can show you’re distracted
  • Walk with confidence and pay attention to your body language
  • Try to avoid walking alone – safety in numbers

If you have been a victim of crime, contact emergency services at 911.

SNA Senior Services Presentation a Success

With more than 35 seniors in attendance, Ann McWalters from DASS, Department of Aging and Senior Services, made a fantastic presentation outlining the different types of services available.  There was great enthusiasm from our participating seniors and future meeting topics may include legal services, transportation, and recreation activities available.  The talk was followed with a lovely lunch and seniors were able to connect with one another as well.
