Safeway Remodel – Six Month 18 Wheeler Loading Trial on Gennessee Street – Submit Your Feedback

SF Planning has requested Safeway to perform a six month test of the 18 wheeler delivery route that includes the 18 wheeler exiting off 280 at Geneva, then driving North on Gennessee towards the Safeway on Monterey Blvd.

SNA submitted to the SF Planning Dept last June 2012 our position on this route.  The Gennessee truck route option was overwhelmingly rejected by SNA members due to the restricted size of the Gennessee Street, that there is already the 43 Masonic MUNI bus that shares this street, and Gennessee is also the bike route for CCSF.  The preferred route is 280 exit at Monterey Blvd and then reverse entry for off loading.

SNA were told:

The Planning Department and SFMTA, as well as residents who have submitted written comments, do not prefer the Monterey Boulevard loading route because it requires removal of a large section of central median in order for Safeway’s 18-wheel trucks to maneuver into oncoming traffic lanes to position themselves to reverse into the off-street loading dock.

Should use by Safeway trucks create a hazardous condition on Gennessee that can be documented by an objective third-party, the loading route would be moved to westbound Monterey Boulevard.

If you are concerned with this six month 18 wheeler loading trial for Gennessee Street, you should contact SF Planning to voice your concern.  SNA has already sent their concern.

Resident Sarah Saunders is holding a women’s suit drive for Dress for Success (www.dressforsuccess.org) on Saturday April 13th from 11:30-1pm and  is hoping to get your help!  She is collecting women’s suits, shoes, handbags and costume jewelry to benefit the San Francisco chapter of Dress for Success, an organization that helps women in need prepare for job interviews.  This is such a great cause and she really would like to get a good turnout from women in the neighborhood.
