Earth Day Community Clean Team Volunteer event for District’s 4 & 7

JOIN US for the Earth Day Community Clean Team Volunteer event for District’s 4 & 7 taking place on April 26th!

We are having our annual Earth Day Community Clean Team Volunteer event this year is San Francisco’s beautiful District’s 4 & 7 and would love your participation! You don’t have to live in D4 or D7 to participate and the event is open to all. Sign up as an individual or as a group and simply show up in your work clothes for a great day of volunteering to make San Francisco a greener, cleaner, and more welcoming environment for residents and visitors alike.

Join us at the kick-off at site at 45th and Sloat at 9am on Saturday, April 26th!

Lunch will be provided for participants.  Please bring appropriate clothing for working outside.  Bringing a reusable water bottle is highly recommended.  Leave your valuables at home.

RSVP is required for lunch, please contact Jerad.Weiner@sfdpw.org or Ahmad.El-Najjar@sfdpw.org to get your group on the list.

Make sure to mention how many volunteers in your group and if there are any special requirements (food restrictions, accessibility concerns, or if you are bringing small children).

Construction begins at Sunnyside Elementary – March 19, 2014

As a neighbor of Sunnyside Elementary School, we are notifying you that construction at the Sunnyside Elementary School is about to begin. The scope of this work will include:

New Building with 6 Classrooms and Media Center and an Existing Building Modernization. Additionally, the Existing Building Modernization includes: new fire protection and fire alarm systems, new and modernized toilet rooms, new kitchen, new flooring and ceilings throughout, door replacements, interior painting, new doors and hardware, new clock and bell system, security and phone system, re-arrangement of support and administrative spaces, new signage, and seismic work. There will also be Site Work for accessibility upgrades, removal of existing bungalows, replacement of exterior stair at Auditorium, and striping.

Construction will begin on March 19, 2014, and it is scheduled to be complete by October 2015. If you have any questions or issues during the construction, please contact the onsite Construction Manager or the District Project Manager, whose contact information is listed below.

Rally at City College of San Francisco Turns Violent; Students Released From Jail

Two City College of San Francisco students arrested yesterday at a chaotic protest against the state-imposed administration were released from jail this morning.

Labor studies major Otto Pippenger, 20, is charged with misdemeanor resisting arrest and battery on a peace officer, according to the San Francisco Sheriff’s Department. Members of the American Federation of Teachers Local 2121 and fellow students raised about $1,600 to post his bail, said Pippenger’s mother, Heidi Alletzhauser.

English major Dimitrious Philliou, 21, was cited and released early this morning for resisting arrest and “returning to school property,” according to the sheriff’s department.

About 200 students and teachers with the Save CCSF Coalition rallied yesterday afternoon at the school’s main campus demanding the resignation of Special Trustee Robert Agrella, the reinstatement of City College’s elected board of trustees, and an end to a new payment policy requiring class fees to be paid up-front, at the beginning of the semester. Agrella was made a special trustee with broad administrative powers after an accreditation agency ruled it would pull the school’s accreditation. This would render the school ineligible to receive state funding and close the school.
