Wreath Making @ Sunnyside Conservatory Dec 19

Holiday Greetings to All!

We will be having a free Wreath Making in the Sunnyside Conservatory (236 Monterey Avenue) on December 19th.

Doors open at 1:30 PM, and we need to finish building our creations by 4:30 PM.

Left over greens are yours if you want them. We will have:

*Lots of greens, some with red berries (holly and Cotoneaster), some green and white variegated foliage, blu-ish juniper, etc.  Wire will be provided.

* You will need to provide your own form or frame, but we will have a
limited number of wire coat hangers if anyone wants to try using them.

* If you can bring something to share that would be great. We have some
ribbons.

* Having one’s own pruners or clippers is a real asset – we have only about
2 or 3 pair to share.

~~~Cheers and good wishes from The Friends of Sunnyside Conservatory~~~
Commuter Shuttle Program Open House, Nov 4, 5:00, City Hall
SFMTA is in the final months of an 18-month pilot to test a limited network of shared Muni and commuter shuttle stops. Although the pilot is still underway, the “Commuter Shuttle Pilot Program Evaluation Report” was released October 15 and and the “Commuter Shuttle Program Policy” October 16. SFMTA will hold an Open House on the Commuter Shuttle Pilot Program on Wednesday, November 4, 5:00pm, City Hall, 2nd Fl Atrium.
For more than two years, private shuttles large and small have routinely parked in and blocked the passenger zone in front of the Glen Park Station. I’ve contacted SFMTA numerous times to report the shuttles parking in the absence of any active loading or unloading, or shuttles without the required permit. They prevent the white passenger zone from being used for its intended function which is safely dropping off and picking up passengers. SFMTA has been somewhat responsive in sending enforcement and contacting the shuttle companies. None of my many complaints is reflected in the evaluation report because Glen Park Station wasn’t part of the evaluation area.
The shuttles undoubtedly provide significant benefits in removing private vehicles from our congested streets and reducing air pollution and I’m sure we’ll see more of them. The owners and operators need to be held accountable, however, when they flout the law and create hazardous conditions for SF residents using public transportation. The paltry $3.67 the shuttle companies pay each time they make a stop should be raised to pay for additional enforcement and driver education.
If you have concerns or comments about the commuter shuttle program, I encourage you to attend the open house next Wednesday or contact SFMTA. Concerns and inquiries about specific commuter shuttle activity can be reported to 311. There’s a link on the SFMTA page below.
Sunnyside Conservatory Gardening and December Wreath Making – 11/21/15
Greetings to all you Conservatory gardeners and potential gardeners.
Please join us and garden in the Sunnyside Conservatory between 8:00 AM and
11:30 PM on Saturday, November 21st. Don’t forget…we are grateful for any
time you can spare to help out. Your efforts really make a difference.
We will have coffee and something to munch on. Tools and gloves will be
provided. I prefer to bring my own gloves and a tool or two to use. You are
free to go either route. Please do consider wearing a hat and well used
jeans.  A full-on El Nino downpour cancels, but a light shower is probably
survivable, and we will try go ahead damply with the gardening.
