Halloween Carnival on Sat Oct 28, 2017

Tomorrow is the annual Halloween Carnival, from 11am-2pm at St Finn Barr Hall (415 Edna Street). You are invited! This event is lots of fun for kids and families. There are games and activities, food and prizes, and a costume contest (for both adults and kids). Supervisor Norman Yee will be present to judge the contests. Photos from last year:

What is it like? SNA Secretary Amy O’Hair worked at the welcoming table last year. “I heard families with toddlers who lived on the same block get a chance to meet each other for the first time and make playdates. One dad arrived a bit grumpy, he didn’t really want to come along, but by the end he was telling me and everyone else what a great time he and his family had.”

‘Detroit Gardens’: local greening project

Last Saturday Friends of the Urban Forest workers, neighbors, and volunteers descended upon the many newly opened planting areas located all around the corners of Detroit/Flood and Detroit/Hearst, and put in lots of native plants and trees.

The result is a whole lot less concrete and a whole lot more green and growing gardens. This was a project initiated by Pam Parker Souza and her neighbors, with a great deal of help from FUF. Want to know how you can transform your block? Contact Pam at  pamparkersouza@zephyrRE.com.

Proposed bikeshare stations in Sunnyside: call for community input

SNA was contacted by Ford Go Bike/Motivate about the four sites they propose for bikeshare stations in Sunnyside. They would like to hear from Sunnyside residents about the proposed choices, and we encourage you to write directly to Justin Nguyen, the Outreach Coordinator. (See below for full contact info.)

Here are mock-up photographs of the sites. These are: northeast corner, Gennessee & Monterey (23 bikes); southwest corner, Hearst & Edna (19 bikes); northeast corner, Hearst & Congo (19 bikes); and south side of Judson between Foerster & Gennessee (23 bikes). All planned sites are located on the street (not sidewalk).
