From the San Francisco Department of Building Inspection, an upcoming event, Earthquake Safety Fair:

On June 13, the Department of Building Inspection will once again host the 2018 Earthquake Safety Fair at Bill Graham Civic Auditorium (99 Grove St, San Francisco, CA 94102) from 10am-4pm. This event will feature an exhibitor hall and informative workshops, along with hands-on emergency training.

Property owners, this event will be your opportunity to meet with various City agencies, contractors, design professionals, and financial resources to assist you with your building permit and earthquake safety questions.

Event Registration begins May 1, 2018. Sign up to be notified of event updates such as workshop offerings and training topics.

May 17: Balboa Reservoir Community Walk

As part of the development of the Balboa Reservoir for housing, the noisy hazard-ridden pedestrian route from there to the Balboa Park Station is being addressed. Join the development team for a walk on Ocean Avenue on Thursday May 17, 6-7:30pm. From SF Planning Dept:

Dear Balboa Community Members,

The Balboa Reservoir development team will be hosting a community walk along Ocean Avenue from the Balboa Reservoir to BART/MUNI on Thursday, May 17th. This will be an opportunity to discuss the existing challenges and opportunities to improve the transportation conditions along this stretch of right-of-way.

The walk will be from 6:00pm to 7:30pm on Thursday, May 17th and will begin at Unity Plaza (outside of 1100 Ocean Avenue).

Mystery hearts sidewalk artist revealed

The sidewalk hearts seen last year (and noted in this post) at the eastern end of Monterey started reappearing near the Detroit crosswalk recently. A passerby happened upon the artist, who has recently moved to Sunnyside.

His name is Amar Pai and he works as a software engineer. He was working from home today and this was his lunch break.

“I started out drawing hearts on the sidewalk and at some point I noticed other people drawing more, that helped me to keep it going. Kind of brightens up your commute, when you’re walking to work.”

The Horticulture Center at City College is holding their annual plant sale. This sale benefits a scholarship find for students.

CCSF Spring Flower & Plant Sale – Thursday May 10

The Spring Flower & Plant Sale scholarship fundraiser will take place Thursday, May 10 in the Horticulture Center (located on the 300 block of Judson Avenue, north side of the Phelan/Ocean Campus). 11:00 am – 3:00 pm The sale will feature student grown and designed perennials, shrubs, house and bedding plants, veggie starts, herbs, fresh floral designs, and permanent home decorations. Just released: the winners of this year’s District 7 Participatory Budgeting include the four projects designed by Sunnyside residents for our neighborhood:

Vision Zero / traffic calming on Judson Ave;
Sunnyside Elementary School playground improvements;
Increased pedestrian safety at the Mangels/Foerster crosswalk;
Needed tables and chairs for the Sunnyside Playground Plaza, so that it can be used for events.
