What a vibrant year it has been for Sunnyside! As we look back on the last 12 months, it is impossible not to feel a surge of pride in our neighborhood. From festive street parties to rolling up our sleeves for cleanups, the Sunnyside Neighborhood Association (SNA) has been hard at work fostering connection, safety, and beauty in our corner of the city.
None of this happens by accident. It happens because neighbors like you show up, pitch in, and support the vision of a thriving community.
Last year was packed with activity. Thanks to your support, we were able to deliver a wide range of events and improvements:

Every balloon at the Spring Party, every sapling planted on our sidewalks, and every dollar secured for the Detroit Steps starts with the backing of residents like you.
As we plan for an even more ambitious year ahead, we are asking for your help in two ways:
1. Join or Renew Your Membership
If you enjoyed an event last year, or simply appreciate walking down a cleaner, greener street, please become a member of the SNA. There is strength in numbers, and your membership amplifies our voice at City Hall
2. Donate to Fund Future Successes
Membership dues cover our basics (barely!), but donations allow us to dream bigger. Your contributions directly fund the supplies for cleanups, the permits for parties, and the grants for neighborhood improvements. Please consider donating here!

Love music? Love Glen Park? If the answer to both is “yes,” please join Glen Park Beautiful for a musical tour inspired by the sights and sounds of Glen Park. The abundantly talented musicians of the Lowell Ensemble, whose “gigs” include decades of playing for San Francisco’s Grammy-winning opera and ballet orchestras, have gleefully created a musical tour that is sure to delight. Get ready for an adventure where you will travel from George Gershwin to Paul Simon.
This is a benefit concert that will support the work of Glen Park Beautiful, a volunteer, resident-driven effort that seeks to foster the creative spirit of the Glen Park neighborhood. GPB builds upon the successes of the Burnside mural, tiled steps, and Elk Street mural. A current key project is the beautification of the Bosworth Pedestrian Bridge.
The bridge project was conceived just a year ago and promises to become a brilliant new
gateway to Glen Park. Much has already been accomplished. Dozens of volunteers removed unsanitary conditions on both sides of the bridge, and spring will see California native plants sprouting. This past fall, community members met with renowned artist Ross Holzman to create mosaic designs based on indigenous motifs that will blanket the bridge’s pillars. In April, the mosaics will be created by Glen Park School students, with installation planned for May, pending the meeting of funding goals.
You can make this a reality. The Lowell Ensemble and its guest musicians are generously sharing their talents to support Glen Park Beautiful’s goals. There is no ticket charge, but we hope you will be inspired to make a contribution.

This type of project requires collaboration, and the list is long: Department of Public Works, Supervisor Mandelman, Glen Park Greenway, Glen Park School, Glen Park Association, and Glen Park Neighborhood History Project.
All funds raised will support projects such as the beautification of the Bosworth Pedestrian Bridge, music in the BART plaza, and similar activations. Glen Park Beautiful is fiscally sponsored by Independent Arts & Media, a 501(c)3.
Construction has begun for the Balboa Reservoir project, which will eventually add 1,100 new homes and a park to Sunnyside

At long last, the groundbreaking for the long-awaited Diego Rivera Theater at City College of San Francisco (CCSF) is finally here. The ceremony will take place on Thursday, January 22, 2026, from 2:00 PM to 3:30 PM in STEAM 101. Please note that the event has already reached capacity.
This 30-month construction project will provide a permanent home for the 74-foot-long Pan American Unity mural. The theater will be located on the western side of Frida Kahlo Way, aligning with the historic east-west axis of Science Hall.
Designed by LMN Architects, the facility will ensure the mural is preserved for future generations. During construction, lead art conservators Kiernan Graves and Anne Rosenthal will monitor the masterpiece every six months. This milestone marks a new chapter for the mural, which was first created for the 1940 Golden Gate International Exposition.
