Owner Almir Zalihic says no one is coming after dark. “So far sales are okay, but there are less people. People are buying more so they don’t have to come as often. Nobody’s going to work, so no early morning business.” The deli has a good menu of popular sandwiches. Almir is giving free meals to healthcare workers.

He didn’t have to let anyone go, but one worker with a standing health problem asked not to work during this time. He’s had to cut back on employees’ hours. The limitations on how much he can buy for the store at one time means he has to make more trips to stock his store. “I can’t buy milk by the case.”

At Sunnyside Elementary School there are no students right now, but the Shared Schoolyard Project is still in effect, so the grounds are open during the day for local families to use the schoolyard for recreation–with a 6-foot distance between families.

On a Monday morning, a SFUSD worker was tidying up the grounds.
