Have your say: Environmental study for Balboa Reservoir housing project

Next Tuesday Oct 30, there is a public meeting to discuss what options are to be studied in the environmental impact review (EIR) process for the Balboa Reservoir housing project. Nothing can be built in future that wasn’t studied now, so the scope of the review is critical. Below is a brief summary of the options and variants that are currently planned for study. (Details on how to comment at the end of this post.)

Here is the 26-page document that describes the scope.

Residents of Sunnyside who have been following the development will notice the new “Additional Housing Option” that will study the effects of more housing units (1550) than what the Developer AvalonBay/BRIDGE currently proposes (800 to 1300). Also, that it is proposed to study one variant without any pedestrian or bike access at the place where San Ramon Way connects with the new streets in the project (‘Variant 3’). The other two variants place the parking garage in different locations.

One item that is not currently proposed or included in the study is general vehicular access at San Ramon Way. Vehicle outlets from the project area will only be placed at Lee Avenue/Ocean Avenue and also onto Frida Kahlo Way (formerly Phelan Ave) by way of CCSF’s portion of the reservoir lot, as proposed currently.
