SF Planning: New guidelines are being developed that will affect future building in the city, Urban Design Guidelines. The public is invited to participate in the review process.

After the latest round of feedback and in response to public comment at the Planning Commission on May 11th, 2017, the Department is proposing a revised structure to how guidance can be provided for Neighborhood Commercial (NC) districts within the city.
Along with the Urban Design Guidelines, the Department is proposing the creation and adoption of Special Area Guidelines, stand-alone documents that would be developed for designated NC areas, in close partnership with affiliated neighborhood organizations and the public, to help projects be more intentionally responsive to unique neighborhood characteristics. Special Area Guidelines would supersede the Urban Design Guidelines and would also be mandatory in the approval process.
Along with revising the UDGs in response to public comments, Department staff have been working with two such neighborhood commercial districts, North Beach and Polk Street, to develop the first round of Special Area Guidelines.
