Another Vulnerable Road User Hit by a Car on Monterey Blvd

In the evening on Thursday Oct 13th, a bicyclist was hit by a car while riding west on Monterey Blvd, between Edna and Foerster Streets. The bicyclist was badly injured. It was a hit and run — the driver did not stop. Fortunately a good citizen who witnessed the collision stopped to help out. Here is a news report on CBSlocal.com. Neighbors on the local site Nextdoor.com report that the driver has been caught. This post on Friend of Monterey Blvd identifies the injured cyclist as Bob Donjacour.

This is the second serious incident in one week — local resident Ling Louie was hit as a pedestrian on this block on Saturday (more here).

Although officers from the Ingleside Police Station often set about enforcing the stop sign at the nearby intersection at Edna Street on the south side, cars often travel at dangerous speeds all along Monterey Blvd.  The recent program that aims to enforce speed limits around the City — “Safe Speeds SF”  — only applies to certain streets, and Monterey Blvd is not included (see map here). Read more about this program here.
