The 2016 Watershed Stewardship Grant program is now accepting applications through March 18th. In addition to managing stormwater, grant projects beautify neighborhoods, provide recreational opportunities, and educate residents about the City’s water and wastewater systems. Grant applications and guidelines can be found at the the Community Challenge Grant website under the “Documents” tab. If you have questions about the Grant Program, please contact Polly Perkins.

A SF resident who took advantage of our Rainwater Harvesting Program recently talked about their newly installed rain barrels.

“…we thought the idea was so great that we have purchased two more rain barrels and have them in the back part of our back yard to help with watering our vegetables…now we have almost 200 gallons of water stored for later on down the road. So happy the SFPUC was offering the initial barrel and that encouraged us to get more.”

We’ll be expanding our Rainwater Harvesting Program this year, so stay tuned for more information!

To Flush or Not to Flush?
Unsure of what to do with expired medicine? Take them to a pharmacy or police station for proper disposal. Flushing old/unwanted medications down the toilet sends them to our wastewater treatment plants that are not designed to remove them; the chemicals pollute San Francisco Bay or the Pacific Ocean and harm wildlife. Click here to find the closest place where you can dispose of your unwanted medications.
Sincerely,
The SFPUC Sewer System Communications Team
