Be part of the Great Tree Count
San Francisco’s first annual Tree Census
Let’s work together to survey the results during our First Annual Great Tree Count campaign!
How you can participate:
From September 30 to October 7 a team of volunteers will conduct a mass “tree census” by walking around, gathering simple data about San Francisco’s trees, and entering it in the San Francisco Urban Forest Map. There are three easy ways to take part:
- Map trees during the Great Tree Count from September 30 to October 7. Assemble a team or work alone. Join us for the kickoff event this Sunday in Washington Square in North Beach from 1pm to 3pm.
- Print out the posters on the website and post them wherever they’re (legally!) allowed.
- Spread the word to family and friends; we make it easy with Facebook and the Great Tree Count website.
Why it matters:
When you add the trees around you to the Urban Forest Map, good things follow:
- We can tally the many environmental benefits of the trees.
- Policy makers who see community support for trees are more likely to make tree-friendly decisions.
- Urban foresters and scientists learn details that assist their vital research.
