The Passing of Margaret Elsbernd (Sean’s Mother)

The Passing of Margaret Elsbernd (Sean’s Mother)

At our last meeting, I promised to post information from the obituary.  My apologies for the delay.  Lisa

Margaret Elsbernd Born in San Francisco on March 5, 1943 to the late John Scott McDonald and Mary Hannigan. She is survived by her children, Sean and Meghann, her daughter-in-law Jennifer, and the sparkle in her eye, her grandson Michael Thomas. She now rests in peace with her husband of 37 years, Joseph Thomas Elsbernd, who passed away in 2009. Margaret will always be remembered as the genesis of great laughter. Whether regaling family, friends, and anyone else who would listen to her with an overly embellished yarn about her children, finding herself on the wrong end of a joke from her husband or children, playing hostess at one of her many dinner parties, or simply cracking off a sarcastic one-liner, time with Margaret was always full of joy. A graduate of St. Anthony, Mercy High School, and College of the Holy Names, Margaret’s career was split into two professions. She owned and operated a children’s clothing store, “Granny’s Place,” on West Portal and Burlingame Avenue for over ten years. Both before and after that decade of work, Margaret found her greatest professional joy as a teacher at St. Monica, St. Benedict, St. Paul, St. Cecilia, and St. Thomas More elementary schools. Her family would like to thank her primary caregiver over the last many years, Sheila Purcell, and all the wonderful and comforting staff at RAI Ocean Avenue and UCSF. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in her name to the Joseph Elsbernd Scholarship Fund at St. Thomas More School or the St. Paul’s Preservation Fund. Private services have already been held.
